Gorodetskaya goldwork embroidery

Goldwork embroidery - an ancient gold-sewing industry, inextricably linked with the history of the ancient city of Russia Gorodets (1152) and Russia.

Goldwork embroidery - embroidery with gold and silver thread - a very ancient type of needlework. The very first information about gold embroidery dates back to the 2nd century BC, when Attalu reigned in the kingdom of Pergamon (northwest Asia Minor).

Goldwork embroidery, which arose in Russia with the adoption of Christianity (988), was formed, like icon painting, under the direct influence of Byzantium. Gold sewing work was carried out in those distant times in monasteries.

Goldwork embroidery came to the Nizhny Novgorod Region in the 18th century along with the Old Believers and continued the traditions of Old Russian sewing.
The craftsmen of Gorodets were famous for their ability to decorate with gold embroidery shawls, scarves, shawls, sundresses, souls, objects of worship.
In 2018, the Gorodets Gold Embroidery factory celebrated its 90th anniversary.

LLC "Gorodets gold embroidery" - the successor of folk art crafts - gold embroidery, which specialized in the Shveynik artel - the first large association of gold sewing in Gorodets, formed in 1928.
